“Making Christ Familiar” by Tammy Maseberg–May 16, 2011

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”  (II Corinthians 5:17, NAS)

I take a multi-vitamin supplement that I mix in orange juice and then drink.  When I first starting taking this, it tasted funny—foreign.  Now after several months of this regimen, orange juice by itself actually tastes weird.  Our bodies and minds will adapt to things that we expose them to over and over.  So, this made me ponder my relationship with the Lord.

“Drumming for Jesus” by Tammy Maseberg–December 2010

I was listening to the classic Christmas song, “The Little Drummer Boy”  today on the radio.  I had always thought of it as a nice song, an easy tune for kids to sing in Christmas plays.  But as I listened to it this morning, I heard it in a completely different way.

“A Spiritual Lesson from Cheers?” by Tammy Maseberg, July 9, 2010

“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came. You want to be where you can see, our troubles are all the same. You want to be where everybody knows your name.”~~~~ Lyrics from “Cheers” theme song

You may remember the above excerpt from the popular sitcom that ran from September 1982 to May 1993. Think about those words for a minute. Don’t we all want a place we can go where the people are glad to see us? We all desire to belong somewhere to something.

“A Change of Hearts” Fiction by Tammy Maseberg

The timing of Jack, my father-in-law, being in the hospital and dying stunk. It really couldn’t have come at a worse time. I was extremely busy at my job, I had kids at home with the flu, and Denny, my husband, was out of the country on business. It all fell on me because no one else in the family could get there fast enough. Everyone was too far away, and even some of those didn’t care enough to make the trip. No wonder, either, because Jack had spent his life laying a foundation of mistrust, anger, and abandonment of his family and friends.

“Grieving a Loss” by Tammy Maseberg

“Jesus wept.” John 11:35

My grandmother, whom I was very close to, died a week ago today. I had the honor and privilege of being with her as she left this world and went to be with her Lord, Jesus. It was not hard to let her go, because she desperately wanted to go home. The sorrow I feel is not for her–I know she is happy, healed, and whole. No, the sadness I carry now is for me, because I miss her so much.
