I was listening to the classic Christmas song, “The Little Drummer Boy” today on the radio. I had always thought of it as a nice song, an easy tune for kids to sing in Christmas plays. But as I listened to it this morning, I heard it in a completely different way.
One of the lines in the song says, “I played my drum for Him. I played my best for Him.” The little drummer boy was bringing his all for the newborn King. Was it gold or anything of value? Not really. I picture him playing a beginner’s sequence of beats; nothing fancy or complicated. And yet, it was his best.
It made me think about what I bring to Jesus. Do I bring my very best to the Lord each day? Do I give everything I have to Him, even though I may not have anything worthy of bringing to the King of kings? God gives each of us unique talents, and I think He is greatly pleased to have us give those back to Him.
I want to challenge myself to come to Jesus as a child and offer Him my best of all that He has entrusted to me. Let’s play our drums for Him this Christmas season!
“And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” Luke 2:12, KJV
