“A Baby as a King” by Tammy Maseberg, Nov. 29, 2009

Today in Sunday service, my pastor preached about Jesus’ birth and how the people of Israel were anticipating the coming of the Messiah. However, they were looking for a conquering king, not a vulnerable and helpless baby who was and is a heavenly King. In looking for some powerful, earthly king, many of them missed the real Messiah.

I often wonder how I would have reacted to Jesus’ birth had I lived in those times. I don’t know. However, I do know that today many people miss Him because they are looking for the wrong thing. Do we want someone to just take away our present pain? Or, do we yearn and search for the real and eternal solution to all our problems, all of our tears and fears?

God sent Jesus as the answer to everything. No matter what happens here in this life, He is our Rock and our Savior. Nothing can separate us from His love, nothing.

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.'” Luke 2:10-11, NAS

That truly is good news! As we head toward the celebration of His birth, let’s focus on the magnitude of what that really means.

Blessings, Tammy
