Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.” John 8:10-11, NAS
This morning, I was reading in the Gospel of John about the woman who was caught in adultry. The people wanted to stone her, the punishment set for such a crime in the Law of Moses. Jesus said that whoever was without sin should cast the first stone. They all walked away because, of course, no one is without sin. While the people wanted to condemn the woman, Jesus forgave her.
Jesus showed the woman great compassion and love. This account can make us think about our own sin and about punishment and judgment. However, when I read this today, it made me think about how Jesus came to show us how to treat others. I believe God wants us to show compassion. But, also I think He wants us to not think of anyone as “beyond” being worthy of His love and forgiveness.
Remember, Jesus didn’t condone what the woman had done, but He forgave her and offered her a new start in her life. Let’s show others His love.
Blessing and Joy, Tammy
