I had never thought about it that way. Of course a big rock wasn’t going to keep Jesus in the grave! I was almost embarrassed that I had assumed the stone was removed for Jesus’ benefit. How we put our Savior in such a box in our human minds! People needed to be able to see that Jesus’ tomb was empty and that He, indeed, had risen from the dead.
Think about it–if the stone would’ve remained over the entrance, so many wouldn’t have seen the miracle. Of course, God knew that an empty tomb would be the “proof” that many people needed to believe in the resurrection.
What an awesome God we serve! I’m so glad the tomb is empty and death was conquered. Aren’t you?
