“THE WORLD SAYS, GOD SAYS” by Tammy Maseberg, March 12, 2013

The world says, you are not loved

“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.  This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”  (1 John 4:9-10, NLT)

The world says, everyone has abandoned you.

“. . . For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” (Hebrews 13:5, NLT)

The world says, you have no future.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)

“WHAT COULD IT HURT?” Fictional Story by Tammy Maseberg, March 5, 2013

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”  (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)

Casey thought surely she would be met at the door by security when she walked into the church earlier that day.  But, she wasn’t.  Instead, she slipped into a back pew and tried to be invisible, an art she had learned well.  What was she doing here anyway?  Oh, yeah.  Religion was the only thing she hadn’t tried in an attempt to get her life straightened out.  What could it hurt?

She was wrong, though, because it was painful as she sat there and listened to the preacher talk about forgiveness and salvation.  She couldn’t remember ever experiencing forgiveness, and she didn’t understand the concept of salvation.  This man couldn’t possibly have known her, but his words seemed to be aimed right at her.  Had he talked to the police or her roommate or, God-forbid, her parents? Her insides shook. (more…)

“THE GREAT PROVIDER” by Tammy Maseberg, February 26, 2013

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.  Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”  (Matthew 6:31-34, NLT)

God will provide.  I know that.  I believe that.

Or, do I?  If obtaining the necessities of life became nearly impossible, would I completely trust God to take care of my family and me in every way?  Honestly I don’t know, because I’ve never been in that position.  However, I do know someone who has been. (more…)

“Letter to my Grandma Dae” by Tammy Maseberg, February 12, 2013

Grandma_Dae-2005

Dear Grandma Dae,

This Saturday marks three years since you left this earth.  I haven’t stopped missing you, and sometimes the pain of your physical absence still goes deep.  In those moments when I just want to feel you near, I wrap up in an afghan you made for me.  Or, when everyone is out of the house, I watch the video slideshow that we played at your memorial service.

Remember when you held my hand as I labored to have Shawn?  Fifteen years later, I was holding yours as you took your last breath.  I treasure that I was there, and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.  But I gotta tell you, Grandma—it was not easy.  I know we told you that we would all be okay without you.  And, I guess we are, sort of.

When I see little old white-haired ladies, I sometimes get tears in my eyes for a bit.  Seeing them brings back such good memories!  Memories of taking you shopping and going to lunch together, of watching Rockies’ and Nuggets’ games with you.  Of just being with you.

“Motivated by His Love” by Tammy Maseberg, February 5, 2013

One of my favorite songs out right now is “The Proof of Your Love” by the group, For King and Country.  Here is the beginning:

“If I sing but don’t have love

I waste my breath with every song

I bring an empty voice, a hollow noise.

If I speak with a silver tongue

Convince a crowd but don’t have love

I leave a bitter taste with every word I say.”

“Rich vs. Poor” (A Fictional Story), by Tammy Maseberg, January 29, 2013

“There is one who pretends to be rich, but has nothing; another pretends to be poor, but has great wealth.”  (Proverbs 13:7, NAS)

It was kind of funny, but not in the hilarious sort of way.  Weird funny.  Winston and Jacob were so different and yet met the same fate on the same day, bleeding the same color of blood.  Both men were making a deposit that Monday when the two masked men stormed into the bank.

Winston’s wealth was public knowledge—he was anything but shy about showing off his affluence.  The day he made his first million, he declared himself richer than God Himself and changed his name from Bob Smith to Winston Rich III.  There was no senior Winston or junior before him—he just thought the Roman numerals at the end sounded good. Dignified.  Important.

Jacob took care of his finances but without broadcasting them to everyone around him. He was born a Potter and died a Potter that day in the bank, next to the guy who insisted on three I’s added to his name for no reason.  Jacob received a generous bonus one year, so he took his wife and four children to the Black Hills to celebrate.  They adored him. “The Center Stage” by Tammy Maseberg, January 22, 2013

“Negative news.

Uncontrollable circumstances.

Difficult people.

Acknowledge that they exist.  Admit they are painful.  Deal with them as necessary.  But do NOT reward them by allowing them to remain on the center stage of your life” ~~Tammy Maseberg (10/23/12)

The first three things listed above are a part of life.  If you are alive, you will meet up with each one at some point—probably many times over.  In fact, some days may bring all of them in the span of a few hours.

When I created that quote last fall, I can’t specifically remember what was going on in my life.  These three elements have not been an easy thing for me to learn to deal with.  After traversing through many trials and heartaches and with a lot of help from the Lord and some wise people, I came up with some solutions that have been beneficial—at least for me: (more…)
