Becky Spencer is a singer/songwriter, recipient of the 2007 Inspirational Artist of the Year, KCCM King Cat Music Awards in Kansas City, author, speaker, and certified Christian lay counselor from Buhler, Kansas. She and her husband Tracy adopted four children and raised four birth children, as well. Her first book, Leapin’ Lizards . . . and other leaps of faith! gives an honest picture of where that adventure of faith in God has taken them.
Becky is passionate about teaching younger women how to love their husbands and children, just as the older women are admonished to do in Titus 2:3-5. “When Tracy and I had been married for ten years, we experienced a huge crisis in our marriage and nearly split up. I didn’t have an older woman in my life to guide me, and I know there is a huge need for that type of mentoring in the body of Christ. The Lord was faithful to teach me during those hard years, and it is a joy to be able to give some of that back to other women who are looking for answers.” Knowing that American Christians are largely unhappy, with a divorce rate actually higher in the church than it is outside, she shares her story, one that went from selfishness, temptation, and despair, to hope, joy, and unconditional love. She beautifully points to the Prince concerned with every longing heart in her second book, When Prince Charming Falls off His Horse . . . and you’ve become his nag!
Becky speaks and sings at mother/daughter teas, women’s Bible studies, MOPS, churches, and various other types of services, but her favorite venue is women’s retreats She brings hope to women who are dissatisfied with their marriages, women who are overloaded with busy lifestyles, and people searching to find a faith that actually changes our lives and makes us different from the world. “I think that too often the world looks at Christians and thinks there is nothing in our lives that would make them want what we have. Christianity should not be like that! Jesus IS Who He says He is, and there is SO much more God longs to do in and through us. He is just looking for someone who will believe Him!”
Becky’s concerts affect eternity rather than merely entertaining, but that doesn’t take away from the soothing vocals and tight band sounds on her latest CD, “Empty.”
Becky, Tracy, and their youngest child Anna spent the month of July, 2006, on a mission trip in Swaziland, Africa, and she is passionate about sharing those experiences with the western church, encouraging each believer to impact the world with the Good News. They have founded Grand Staff Ministries, Inc. to help them actively raise support for the orphans in Africa, as well as train ministers of the Gospel in the arts and send missionaries on long- and short-term trips. They’ve been thrilled to see how God is already moving on hearts of believers in the States to help the orphans in Swaziland and poverty-stricken families in Mozambique. Tracy and Becky returned to Africa for another month during the summer of 2008, joining a team to build a Christian school in Mozambique.
Becky stays active home schooling the youngest of her eight children and enjoys the role of “Grammy,” with sixteen grandchildren–and counting.
