I came to Christ as a teenager as a result of observing the kids from the local Assembly of God Youth Group. These teenagers displayed an uncompromising faith in the Lord. And, many adults in the church showed genuine Christ-like love for me.
My journey as a Christian has been a slow, steady, long process—not because of God’s reluctance to grow me but rather as a consequence of my own stubbornness in letting Him take the reins of my life.
One of my biggest struggles has been to learn to lean on God and God only. I found myself too dependent on other people and circumstances. But, God is faithful, even when we are not. I would not be the person I am today in the Lord had it not been for the valleys and difficult times in my life.
He has blessed me beyond what I deserve or could have ever envisioned as a young person. I have a faithful, loving husband and three great boys. I continually marvel at all God has done in my life.
I met Iris at church when she lived in Colorado. Those were BAD days, “Before A Diagnosis” of her illness. Then she moved back to the East Coast, where she grew up. We stayed in touch, however infrequently. When the opportunity came to her to start this ministry, she approached me about helping with the newsletter. When she asked me if I would help her write and edit the newsletter, I was somewhat taken back. I told her that my passion had always been to write. Along with that, I had developed a great compassion for anyone hurting and struggling through difficult times, whether that be from living with a disability or from crippling circumstances.
What an outlet this ministry has been for what I feel God has called me to do! Again, He has blessed me—this time by allowing me to help Iris bring His Word and His love to people. As a writer, albeit a novice, this opportunity is like giving me the sweetest, most delicious chocolate cake on the planet.
