1st Verse:  Well, everybody’s got a story to tell

And everybody’s got a wound to be healed

Each one of us has a unique life, a “story” that no one else can lay claim to—not exactly anyway.  And, everyone has at least one part of that story that has caused heartache.  Sometimes the pain we deal with from those wounds may be so overwhelming that we cannot see beyond them.

1st Verse (cont.):   I want to believe there’s beauty here

‘Cause oh I get so tired of holding on

                                                  I can’t let go, I can’t move on

I want to believe there’s meaning here

“Looking. Seeking. Finding.” by Tammy Maseberg, March 26, 2013

“Mom!  I can’t find my _____.”  You can fill in the blank—homework, favorite shirt, helmet, or (later on) car keys.  I’m will use the example of shoes.

“Don’t think I wore them,” I say.

“I know, but I can’t find them.”

“Did you look in your closet?”

“Well, no but I can’t find them.  Come help me, please.”

Of course, I drop what I’m doing and go to his aid.  And, since he’s been at it for 10 minutes now, I really doubt if his non-mom eyes are capable of locating those shoes.  I start my search, and 15 seconds later I’m standing in front of him with the objects of his distress in my hand.  “Are these what you’re looking for?”  And, I give him that look.  You know, that same one I’ve probably worn on my face a 1000 times before—but, who’s counting?

What my son was looking for was there all along, but somehow they escaped his field of vision.  The shoes didn’t suddenly appear when the mother figure (that would be me) of the house went hunting for them.

Oh, so much like life!  We all yearn for love, acceptance, and mercy—things only God can give us in the most complete and unconditional way possible.  Problem is we tend to search in all the wrong places for them.  We think He is hiding His goodness from us, and that just isn’t true.  I picture God trying to get our attention to tell us that He’s ready to give us all that is beneficial, genuine, and fulfilling.  All we have to do is ask.  “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”  (Matthew 7:7, NIV)

“THE WORLD SAYS, GOD SAYS” by Tammy Maseberg, March 12, 2013

The world says, you are not loved

“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.  This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”  (1 John 4:9-10, NLT)

The world says, everyone has abandoned you.

“. . . For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” (Hebrews 13:5, NLT)

The world says, you have no future.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)

“WHAT COULD IT HURT?” Fictional Story by Tammy Maseberg, March 5, 2013

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”  (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)

Casey thought surely she would be met at the door by security when she walked into the church earlier that day.  But, she wasn’t.  Instead, she slipped into a back pew and tried to be invisible, an art she had learned well.  What was she doing here anyway?  Oh, yeah.  Religion was the only thing she hadn’t tried in an attempt to get her life straightened out.  What could it hurt?

She was wrong, though, because it was painful as she sat there and listened to the preacher talk about forgiveness and salvation.  She couldn’t remember ever experiencing forgiveness, and she didn’t understand the concept of salvation.  This man couldn’t possibly have known her, but his words seemed to be aimed right at her.  Had he talked to the police or her roommate or, God-forbid, her parents? Her insides shook. (more…)

“THE GREAT PROVIDER” by Tammy Maseberg, February 26, 2013

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.  Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”  (Matthew 6:31-34, NLT)

God will provide.  I know that.  I believe that.

Or, do I?  If obtaining the necessities of life became nearly impossible, would I completely trust God to take care of my family and me in every way?  Honestly I don’t know, because I’ve never been in that position.  However, I do know someone who has been. (more…)

“Letter to my Grandma Dae” by Tammy Maseberg, February 12, 2013

Grandma_Dae-2005

Dear Grandma Dae,

This Saturday marks three years since you left this earth.  I haven’t stopped missing you, and sometimes the pain of your physical absence still goes deep.  In those moments when I just want to feel you near, I wrap up in an afghan you made for me.  Or, when everyone is out of the house, I watch the video slideshow that we played at your memorial service.

Remember when you held my hand as I labored to have Shawn?  Fifteen years later, I was holding yours as you took your last breath.  I treasure that I was there, and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.  But I gotta tell you, Grandma—it was not easy.  I know we told you that we would all be okay without you.  And, I guess we are, sort of.

When I see little old white-haired ladies, I sometimes get tears in my eyes for a bit.  Seeing them brings back such good memories!  Memories of taking you shopping and going to lunch together, of watching Rockies’ and Nuggets’ games with you.  Of just being with you.

“Motivated by His Love” by Tammy Maseberg, February 5, 2013

One of my favorite songs out right now is “The Proof of Your Love” by the group, For King and Country.  Here is the beginning:

“If I sing but don’t have love

I waste my breath with every song

I bring an empty voice, a hollow noise.

If I speak with a silver tongue

Convince a crowd but don’t have love

I leave a bitter taste with every word I say.”
